What is Maggie’s Legacy?
Maggie’s Legacy is a practical, reflective and non-labelling framework for helping clients understand workplace conflict. It focuses on observable patterns of language, behaviour, expectations and interaction, rather than diagnosing people, assigning motives or determining who is right or wrong.
Workplace conflict is not always caused by one identifiable incident. Clients may describe repeated experiences of pressure, blame, urgency, obligation, dismissive communication, changing expectations or uncertainty about their responsibilities. When these experiences are viewed together, a recognisable interaction pattern may emerge.
Maggie’s Legacy helps counsellors support clients to:
- Identify what was said or requested.
- Recognise repeated communication patterns.
- Consider how the interaction developed.
- Distinguish personal expectations from workplace requirements.
- Identify relevant policies, standards and role expectations.
- Consider respectful and safer next steps.
The framework enables clients to step back from emotional pressure and examine the interaction with greater clarity. When clients learn to recognise patterns for themselves, Maggie’s Legacy can become a practical self-assessment tool that supports autonomy and informed decision-making.
Questions For Reflection
- What happened during the interaction?
- What words, behaviours or expectations were repeated?
- When did the interaction shift from cooperation towards tension?
- Which workplace standards or responsibilities may be relevant?
- What options are available to the client?
Important Standard
Maggie’s Legacy does not tell clients what to think or what decision to make. It complements existing counselling approaches and workplace processes but does not replace HR, WHS, legal, clinical or organisational advice.
